What is the ISEE?
The ISEE (Indicatore della Situazione Economica Equivalente) is the official Italian indicator of a household's economic situation. Italian universities ask for it before granting scholarships, fee reductions, canteen meals and student housing. If your household's income or assets are outside Italy, you need the ISEEU Parificato instead of the ordinary ISEE.
How is the ISEE calculated?
The calculation starts from the ISE: the household's total income plus 20% of its assets. The ISEE is then the ISE divided by the equivalence scale coefficient (scala di equivalenza), which depends on how many people are in the household and how it is composed. ISEE-U for DSU scholarships
Universities and regional student agencies use the ISEE-U, the university version of the ISEE (ISEEU Parificato when income comes from abroad), to rank applicants for DSU scholarships, canteen access and subsidised housing.
